Built on the Carreau St Joseph, at the foot of the last headframe, the Maison de la Mine offers an exhibition area dedicated to the daily life of the miner and from different aspects: hot room, lamp room, extraction site etc. using cinema, models and artefacts.

Description

An outdoor garden, accessible from the Maison de La Mine, accommodates various pieces of the heavier and more cumbersome mining equipment, to comlete the internal exhibition.
The children will be able to inform themselves with a small booklet, "Les mines de charbon racontées aux enfants" (The coal mines told to children) with adapted explanations, games and quizzes. At the end of their visit, they will receive a surprise.
Starting this year, adolescents will be able to come and investigate the theft of explosives. With an investigation booklet, they will look for clues and testimonies in the mine house to solve the investigation. A treasure hunt on mining trades will also be available.
Former miners will answer questions from the public by reservation to discover the mining economic turning point in the Eloysien Basin. Between the risky trades, the firedamp, and the technical evolutions, the whole history of an industry is told. (Minimum 10 people, per group, according to the evolution of sanitary rules).
